Meet the new bishop at Saturday Mass

Had a nice crowd for lunch last Thursday, Nov. 1 at the Franklin County Senior Center in Carrabelle. Members of the Carrabelle Lions Club and Bill Messer presented the center with a new commercial gas range. It’s a honey! Thank you very much!

While we are on the subject, mark your calendars for Thursday, Nov. 15. We will have our annual Thanksgiving Dinner. As usual, the dinner will be in memory of Julia Mae Putnal and her sister Audrey Messer. Julia Mae and Audrey along with their sister, Merle Brannan, furnished and prepared the turkeys, dressing and giblet gravy. May Julia Mae and Audrey rest in peace.

This Saturday, Nov. 10, there will be a gumbo cook-off at the Lanark Village Boat Club. Proceeds go to the St. James-Lanark Volunteer Fire Department. The cook-off will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 7 p.m. Come and enjoy! Support our fire department.

On Saturday, Nov. 10, the 5 p.m. Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church will be celebrated by our new bishop, Right Reverend Gregory Parkes. Mass will be followed by our monthly covered dish dinner. Join us in the hall. Meet our new bishop and visit with Father Eddie.

Veterans Day, Sunday, Nov.11, will find members of the Camp Gordon Johnston American Legion Post 82 with the ceremony at 11 a.m., with lunch following, for members only!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Your support for the three big fundraisers was greatly appreciated!

Members of the Lanark Village Golf Club prepared and served 57 breakfast plates. The yard sale at Sacred Heart Church was a big success. Thomas Lee and crew cooked and sold 67 Boston butts. What a great day! Thanks to all the volunteers for all your hard work putting the events together.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, Nov. 17. The Women’s Christian Fellowship Circle will hold their annual Fall Bazaar at the Community Church at the corner of Spring and Oak Streets, here in Lanark Village. Fun starts at 8 a.m. There will be a bake sale, Christmas trees and other things for sale. Chili to go, hot dogs, chips, soda and a raffle. See ya there!

Of course, we will have our annual Thanksgiving Dinner at Chillas Hall. Serving begins at 1 p.m. There is a sign-up sheet in the hall. Put your name, number in your party and what dish you are bringing to go with turkeys furnished by the Honorable Cheryl Sanders. See ya there!

Be kind to one another, check in on the sick and housebound and remember, God is watching us from a distance.
