Incumbent Cal Allen has served on the Franklin County Tourist Development Council, the Apalachee Regional Planning Commission and as liaison to Franklin County Emergency Management for the city.

Allen said he wants a “good, open, honest and fair campaign.”

In a July 19 interview, he said, “I’m looking forward to this. We have a lot of interesting things going on right now. Experience has given me the voices of reason and judgment to see things from other peoples’ point of view.”

He said his status as a retiree gives him the time needed to fulfill the duties of a city council member.

Allen expressed optimism on the topic of repaying Carrabelle’s construction debt for updating the water and sewer system.

“I feel like we’re making real progress. There will be an increase in rates but not as much as we were thinking. I believe we will come out debt-free sooner rather than later,” said Allen.

If reelected, Allen plans to work with the county to obtain RESTORE funds and be sure that Carrabelle receives its fair share of the BP settlement.
