A 40-year-old Bristol man was critically injured early Sunday morning when his sports utility vehicle traveled off State Route 65 and slammed into a wooded tree line.

Horace A. Harris was traveling north on SR 65, just past Teresa Road, when his 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe veered on to the left shoulder at about 12:39 a.m. After steering right, Harris overcorrected, and traveled back on to the west shoulder before colliding with two trees.

After impact, Harris, who was not wearing a seatbelt, backed the vehicle “from the wooded tree line and drove south on the west shoulder of SR 65 for 32 feet,” read the report, prepared by Florida Highway Patrol Trooper F. C. Hening.

Harris was transported to Bay Medical Center.
