Navy Seaman Recruit Brandon Jones graduated March 22, from U.S Navy Basic Training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Brandon completed training that included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness. The capstone event of boot camp is Battle Stations, an experience that gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. It is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit, through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core of honor, courage and commitment.

Jones, a 2011 graduate of Franklin County High School, is now stationed in Biloxi, Miss. for the next 14 weeks where he will be training to be a Naval Seabee Builder.

He is the son of Mitch and Kim Griner of Apalachicola, and brother to Kaitlin, MaKenzie of Apalachicola, and Christopher of Washington DC. He is the grandson of Lynn and Ginny Griner, Wayne and Kathy Cox, and nephew to Dewayne and Tammy Lewis, Stacy Cox and Mario Lane, Ashley and Terry Griner, all of Apalachicola, and a very special aunt, Pat Debord of Washington State.

We are very proud of our sailor. Hooyah, go Navy!
