After learning the metal monuments in Carrabelle’s Veterans Park have been damaged by weather, Lanark Village resident and internationally recognized bronze sculptor Fred Aman has volunteered his time to repair the statues. Both the flag and the eagle adorning the memory wall have begun to shed their painted finish.

City Administrator Courtney Millender said Aman plans to sandblast the statues and repaint them. She said the cost of the paint, which should be minimal, will come from a fund overseen by Carrabelle Cares. Tamara Allen, president of Carrabelle Cares, said the money originally was put aside to provide bricks on the wall of memory for families that could not afford them, but Allen said there has been little need for the help. – By LOIS SWOBODA
