Five KIT Progam Reps Visit State Capitol
Five students from the Franklin County Public Library's youth development KIT (Keeping It Together) program represented Franklin County at this year's Juvenile Justice Week/Youth Leadership Delegation Day at the State Capitol in Tallahassee on March 27.
Forty-six youth from 11 neighboring counties took part in the event that included: meetings with legislators, talking with Department of Juvenile Justice Secretary Frank Peterman, Jr., and ex-professional football player Jim Brown, and taking part in a Youth "Sound Off" program and media literacy training facilitated by the Florida Youth Delegation and the Office of Drug Control.
KIT participants from the library-based sites in Carrabelle, Eastpoint, and Apalachicola were accompanied by Coordinators Bonny Ball and Joan Matey. Emily MacDonald, Cody Daniels, Jonathan Dasher, Derick Rhodes and Direek Farmer were the KIT students honored with Certificates for their participation.
At the end of the day, the group was treated to a guided tour of the Governor's Mansion. KIT is made possible by a grant from the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice and is administered by the Friends of the Franklin County Public Library.
