The Nest plans celebration of self-esteem
“I have a best friend. That best friend is ME!”
So says the title character in Nancy Carlson’s children’s book, “I Like Me!” about a cheerful pig with healthy self-esteem and loads of confidence.
The staff of The Nest after-school programs in Eastpoint and Carrabelle will share Carlson’s message with students and parents during two celebrations promoting self-acceptance and family literacy.
“I Like Me! A Self-Esteem Celebration” will be held on Monday, Feb. 28 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Franklin County School cafeteria. A second celebration will be held on Tuesday, March 1 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Carrabelle Municipal Complex cafeteria.
Nest staff and volunteers will read books that promote self-acceptance, and students will have fun making crafts that reinforce the stories’ positive themes. There will also be food for all students and family members to enjoy.
The Nest has partnered with the non-profit organization Bring Me a Book - Franklin to provide a special family workshop on the importance of reading. Bring Me a Book Franklin has also generously donated a book for each child to take home after the event.
Family literacy, positive student behavior, and parent involvement are key components of the 21st Century Community Learning Center grant which funds The Nest programs. Please plan on attending these special events and help us spread the message: “I like me!”
The Nest welcomes all Franklin County School students in grades PreK-12 to attend our programs at the school and the Carrabelle Municipal complex. For more information, contact interim FCS site director Louise Chipman, 670-2820, or Carrabelle site director Joy Shiver, 697-2177.
The Nest is open Monday through Friday, from 2:30 to 6 p.m. at the Franklin County School and 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Carrabelle. Bus transportation to Eastpoint and Apalachicola is available.
