Eastpoint to get Christmas lights
Eastpoint will have new Christmas decorations this year.
At the Aug. 17 county commission meeting, District 1 Commissioner Pinki Jackel requested that $7,500 be transferred from the district’s road paving fund to general revenue so that the money could be used to purchase holiday street decorations for Eastpoint.
Jackel said that inmates from the work camp could construct the lights. “I believe visitors passing through the county will enjoy the lights,” she said.
Clerk of Courts Marcia Johnson said she was not opposed to the action, but warned commissioners it might set a precedent for other transfers. She also reminded the commissioners that the lights would become a recurring expenditure because of the electricity required to power them.
Commissioners voted unanimously to allow the transfer.
