Fire destroys Lanark Village home

A Sunday evening blaze in Lanark Village destroyed a one-story home, but spared any injury to residents or nearby structures. According to Lt. Jason Roberts from the state fire marshal’s office, the fire call came in around 7:33 p.m. and was responded to by firefighters from the Lanark Village, Carrabelle, Alligator Point, Eastpoint and Apalachicola volunteer fire departments. Rhonda Lee Saunders, owners of the home at 2-1 Parker Avenue, was not at home at the time. Neighbors ran to the flaming house and broke a window to attempt entry, but the fire eventually consumed most of the structure. Roberts said Det. Brock Dietz, with the fire marshal’s office, is still investigating the cause of the blaze.
