Boys and Girls Club Ends with a Splash
On Thursday, July 31 the Carrabelle chapter of the Boys and Girls Club of the Big Bend threw a party to celebrate the end of their summer program. The kids were treated to a special cookout for lunch with Dan Clark from the Franklin County Correctional Center followed by a battle with squirt guns and water balloons. Everyone was wet before it was all over and the kids will have one last happy memory to take to school with them this year.
It was a bittersweet occasion for staff members, who now face unemployment, since grant money funding the Carrabelle facility has not been renewed this year.
The county Boys and Girls Clubs, under the administration of the Big Bend clubs, continues to operate the Project Impact program at three after-school sites: The Love Center, the Apalachicola Bay Charter School, and on the campus of the new consolidated school.
Cherry Rankin, director of the Carrabelle program said, "We want to thank everybody for their support in the past and we are looking forward to the program being put back in place, hopefully within the next week."
Rankin wished to give special thanks to parent volunteers Rita Massey, Danny and Kim Clark, Vicki Drennen, Judy Dean, Mayme Millender, Alisa Woods and Rhonda Avila; student volunteers Lakota Humble and Chantella Lucas and the First Assembly of God in Carrabelle.
