Realtors Announce Political Recommendations

For the first time since it was created in 1990, the Realtor Association of Franklin & Southern Gulf Counties (RAFSG) conducted candidate screening in both Franklin and Gulf counties. A special screening panel, consisting of the Government Affairs Committee and Association members conducted the candidate interviews on Sept. 16 and 17.

Following extensive questioning, the Realtor Association has recommended the following candidates in the Nov. 4 general election:

  • Florida House District 10 - Don Curtis
  • Franklin County Sheriff - Skip Shiver
  • Franklin County Commission District 1 - Pinki Jackel
  • Franklin County Commission District 5 - Dawn Evans Radford
  • Franklin County School Board District 1 - George Thompson
  • Franklin County School Superintendent - Denise Butler
  • Gulf County Commission District 3 - Billy Williams
  • Gulf County Commission District 5 - Barbara Radcliff

RAFSG currently has a total membership of 388, including 322 Realtors. "Interviews with the candidates were designed primarily to provide Association Members with information on the candidate's views regarding issues important to our industry," said Rick Watson, chairman of the association's Government Affairs Committee.

Gloria Salinard, association executive, said RAFSG has asked the Realtors Political Action Committee (RPAC) for $500 for each of the recommended candidates. If the request is approved by this non-profit, bipartisan standing committee of the Florida Association of Realtors, Salinard said those recommended candidates who have informed RASFG that they would be willing to accept RPCA funds would receive these contributions.

I find this article very insulting to the citizens of Franklin County. Whether a citizen supports any or all of the candidates listed, it is their individual right to choose and vote for the person they feel best qualified for the position. It is not the right of a so called panel of "real estate experts" to "recommend" who someone should vote for. HG

Now let me get this straight? The very realtors that did NOT have a CLUE, regarding the impending collapse of the local housing market are now political experts? SURELY you jest when they tell me who to vote for?
