Alligator Point woman killed in crash

An Alligator Point woman was killed early Thursday morning, March 19 in a one-car accident in easternmost peninsula of the county.

Nancy Sanders Cherri, 59, was traveling eastbound in a 1999 Chevrolet 4-door on County Road 370, about one mile east of U.S. 98, at about 4 a.m. when the accident occurred.

The vehicle left the roadway onto the south shoulder, according to the Florida Highway Patrol report, and the front of the vehicle hit a tree and came to a stop upon impact.

Cherri, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time, was rushed to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital but died from injuries sustained in the wreck.

The Alligator Point and Lanark Village fire departments assisted, as did the county ambulance service and the sheriff's office.
