HOOVER - Robby Ashford threw two touchdown passes just before halftime as fifth-ranked Hoover pulled away for a 35-7 victory Friday night over Tuscaloosa County in Class 7A, Region 3 action.

Ashford hit Anthony Hayes for a short touchdown with 30 seconds remaining in the second quarter.

On the next play from scrimmage after Hoover (4-2, 3-1) recovered a surprise onside kick, Ashford hit George Pickens for a 32-yard score and a 28-0 halftime lead.

Pickens also caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from Josh Lundy, while Larry McCammon ran for two first half scores, including a 36-yarder.

Tuscaloosa County (1-5, 0-4) hosts Oak Mountain next Friday night.

 

Gordo 45,

Holt 0

GORDO - Troy Garner Jr. and Josh Darling each scored two touchdowns as the Gordo Greenwave shut out the Holt Ironmen in a Class 3A, Region 4 game.

Garner Jr. rushed for 71 yards and scored on runs of 1 and 2 yards. Darling followed with touchdown runs of 3 and 17 yards.

Tanner Bailey threw a 29-yard scoring pass to D.J. Barnes, while Nathan Shepherd scored on a 15-yard run and Izayah Edwards had a 3-yard touchdown run.

Barnes finished with four receptions for 49 yards.

Cade Junkin led the Greenwave defense with nine tackles, while Darling had eight tackles and Deandrius Martin had five tackles, two pass deflections and one interception.

Gordo (4-2, 3-1) travels to Greene County next Friday, while Holt (1-5, 0-4) travels to Hale County.

 

South Lamar 20,

Pickens County 15

MILLPORT - Hunter Oglen caught a 35-yard pass from Jack Dowdle with 1:14 remaining as the South Lamar Stallions rallied in the second half to beat the Pickens County Tornadoes in a pivotal Class 1A, Region 6 showdown.

Pickens County led 15-8 at halftime on touchdown runs by Jacarian Washington and Tadarrion McIntosh, before South Lamar answered in the second half.

Buster Griffin started the Stallion comeback by returning the second-half kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown.

Malachi Oglen scored South Lamar's first-half touchdown on a 76-yard reception from Dowdle.

Griffin led the Stallions in rushing with 90 yards, while Malachi Oglen finished with receptions for 96 yards.

South Lamar (6-0, 4-0) travels to Marion County next Friday night, while Pickens County (4-2, 3-1) hosts Meek.

 

Fayette County 27,

Oak Grove 7

OAK GROVE - Blake Wallace rushed for two touchdowns and Walt Tucker passed for two more as the Fayette County Tigers remained unbeaten in Class 4A, Region 5 play.

Wallace scored on two 4-yard runs, while Tucker followed with a 66-yard touchdown pass to Tre'Darion Walker and a 3-yard pass to Trevor Billups.

Walker finished with two receptions for 90 yards.

Parker Nichols led the Tiger defense with seven tackles and one sack. Zack Ingle had six tackles and one assist.

Fayette County (6-1, 4-0) has a bye next week before traveling to Haleyville on Oct. 19.

 

Tuscaloosa Academy 55,

Lee-Scott Academy 0

TUSCALOOSA - Seven players scored touchdowns for the Tuscaloosa Academy Knights as they shut out Lee-Scott Academy.

Houston Evans scored on a 52-yard run, Mayes White returned a punt 75 yards, Alex Johnson scored on a 2-yard run and Cameron Chambers scored on a 35-yard run.

Phil McDuff reeled off an 80-yard scoring run, while Kevin McNeal had a 4-yard touchdown run and Carson Claytor scored on a 5-yard run.

Tuscaloosa Academy (6-1) hosts Glenwood Academy next Friday night.

 

Aliceville 22,

Winston County 8

DOUBLE SPRINGS - Kavon McGraw rushed for one touchdown and passed for another as the Aliceville Yellow Jackets stung Winston County in a Class 2A, Region 5 match-up.

McGraw scored on a 66-yard run, before throwing a 6-yard touchdown pass to Matthew Clark.

Rodney Jones added a 12-yard scoring run for the Yellow Jackets.

Aliceville (5-1, 4-0) travels to Southeastern next Friday night.
