ALABASTER – The Hillcrest High School baseball team swept a doubleheader on Friday against Thompson, winning 6-0, and 9-4.
Garrett McMillan (6-3) got the win in the 6-0 decision. He pitched six innings, allowed no runs on three hits and eight strikeouts. Patrick Hollyhand had three hits, a single, a double and a triple. Kash Ryan had two hits.
Jay Bramblett (5-4) got the win and Christian Jones the save in the 9-4 victory. Bramblette went 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on four hits with three strikeouts. Walt Bailey and Colby Smelley both had two hits, a single and a double. Jones and Kyle Chastine both had one hit with two RBIs.
Hillcrest (20-10) now readies to host the first round of the AHSAA Class 6A playoffs. The Patriots host Wetumpka in a doubleheader on Friday, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Caleb May pitched a complete game, striking out 13 and allowing just two hits to earn the win. Luke McCroskey had an RBI triple, Jacob Dunkling had two hits, and Derrick Johns had an RBI single.
Tuscaloosa Christian (6-9) plays Monday at home against First Assembly.

In the first game, TA (21-11), Scotty Fulgham took the loss. Brook Brannon went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Houston Evans had a hit and RBI.
In game two, Hayden Johnson took the loss. Mayes White went 2-for-2 and Thomas Williams had an RBI single for the lone TA run.
TA closes out the regular season at home Tuesday night against Pickens Academy.

GARDENDALE – Sarah Crawford (12-3) pitched for the win, striking out three, walking four and allowing one hit. Anna Suttle hit 2-for-3 with a trip and five RBIs. Loren Caudle hit a 2-RBI double. Tori Ash had a 2-RBI double, and Alyssa Dockery hit a 2-RBI single.
Tuscaloosa Christian (14-3) travels to Selma on Tuesday to play Meadowview Christian.

Winfield’s Breanna Ray hit 3-for-3 and scored twice. Brooke McCaleb hit a 2-RBI triple. Jacie Cummings, C’era Beck, Alanna Ballard, Sara Cotton and Brantley Cagle each hat one RBI.

Sumiton Christian 0
SUMITON – Tuscaloosa County won two of three games at the Sumiton Christion Tournament. The Wildcats (18-13) will begin bracket play on Saturday, weather permitting. Teams were originally scheduled to play two pool games on Friday and one final pool game on Saturday before beginning bracket play, but the prediction of severe weather on Saturday pushed up the schedule.
Maddie Parks was the winning pitcher, throwing five innings and striking out six, walking one and giving up one hit. Carli Crowder hit 2-for-4 with one RBI, and both Katie Atkins and Jasmine Crain-Walker hit 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
In the first pool-play game, Tuscaloosa County beat Carbon Hill, 3-2, with Katie Hammonds pitching seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits and one strikeout to earn the win. Teraney Eatmon’s solo home run in the top of the seventh was the winning run. Crain-Walker hit 2-for-3.
Tuscaloosa County lost the second game, 8-0, to Gardendale. Atkins hit 2-for-2 in that game.
On Thursday, Wesley Marcus scored two goals and Josue Garcia one in the Northridge win. It was an AHSAA Class 6A, Area 6 match.
Tuscaloosa County’s boy’s golf team won the Walker Invitational Tournament in Jasper on Tuesday. The team shot 308 to finish first. The Wildcats’ Bryant Raynowska finished first among all individualists, medaling with a 71. Seth Rogers and Aaron Banks both shot 78 and were both named to the all-tournament team.
JaLon Johnson named to all-star team
Hillcrest High School's JaLon Johnson, a 6-foot, 170 pound senior guard, has been named to the North team for the Alabama North-South All-Star basketball game.
The 22nd annual Alabama High School Athletic Association All-Star Games will be played July 18. The girls’ and boys’ basketball games will be at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on the Alabama State University campus Wednesday night, July 18, at 6 and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
