HOLT – Hillcrest High School defeated Holt 55-39 on Thursday in a contest that reunited Patriots head coach Scott Suttles with one of his former assistants, Ironmen head coach Steven Watkins.

“When you see them doing really good things and they’ve moved on, it makes your heart proud,” Suttles said of his former assistant, a member of the coaching staff when Hillcrest won a state championship in 2008.

Three Hillcrest players scored in the double digits. Christian Jones had 14 points, Tre Ross had 13 points and JaLon Johnson added 10 points.

Holt’s Josh Strozier finished with 18 points, including three 3-pointers. D.J. Robertson had 11 points.

“We played hard,” Watkins said. “It is always helpful when it comes to your area games to prepare by playing a quality team like Hillcrest. Coach Suttles is an outstanding coach and does a great job of having his kids ready to play. It’s great for us to play in an environment like that against a quality team.”

Hillcrest (14-5) hosts Paul W. Bryant in area play on Saturday. Holt (10-8) hosts Oak Grove in an area contest during school on Friday, starting at 1:30 p.m.
