Apalachicola’s wildly successful fundraiser to benefit the Apalachicola Volunteer Fire Department, the annual Oyster Cook-off is coming up this weekend.

On Friday, Jan. 5, more than 20 residents attended an art event to support the cook-off. For the fourth consecutive year members of Apalachicola’s community created paintings revolving around the oyster.

About 30 acrylic paintings created for the cook-off will go on sale during a silent auction. The paintings will be on display during a preview from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 12 and the auction will continue through Saturday afternoon.

Don’t miss this chance to acquire a bit of local color.

Shelley Shepard, organizer and spokesperson for the cook-off, asked to remind everyone that this is also the fourth year for the Half Shell Hustle 5K run which will take place at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13. She said there are currently about 40 runners registered for the event. Registration on the day of the race will take place from 7 to 8 a.m. at Riverside Park in Apalachicola.
