Besting rival Maclay by three strokes, the Lady Seahawk girls varsity golf team won a district championship last week, and qualified for the state playoffs for the fifth consecutive year.
Florida High came in third at the Oct. 18 competition at Southwood in Tallahassee.
Both FCHS and Maclay qualified for regionals which took place on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at Seminole Golf Course in Tallahassee.
Junior Melanie Collins fired a 75 and came in second place overall behind Aucilla Christian’s Megan Schofill, who shot 73. Junior Alexus Johnson shot 96, followed by freshmen Hollie Larkin (116), and Summer Cepull (133).
“Once again, we barely beat Maclay, and we will probably have to lower our team score if we are going to make it back to state,” said coach Scott Collins.
Teams from Pensacola to Madison County will play at Florida State University’s Seminole on Tuesday.
