MARY ESTHER —A 19-year-old woman faces drug and alcohol charges after she asked a deputy to get her cell phone from her purse.

What he found was marijuana.

According to an arrest report from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, the woman was a passenger in a car that was pulled over because the deputy observed the car swerving and almost hitting a barricade.

When the deputy asked the driver if he had been drinking, the passenger “spontaneously uttered” that she had been drinking.

While the deputy was arresting the driver, the woman asked him to get her cell phone from her purse. As the deputy pulled the purse off the floor, he noticed a small bag containing ground up marijuana. Underneath the passenger seat where the woman had been sitting, the deputy found a second bag of marijuana and an open can of alcohol that was about a quarter full.

The marijuana weighed approximately 5 grams and field tested positive for THC.

The woman was arrested and charged with possession of liquor by a person under the age of 21 and possession of marijuana, both misdemeanors.
