Charlotte Palmer Watkins, affectionately known as “Lottie,” born Oct. 13, 1929, went to be with her Lord on Friday, Sept. 22, 2017.
Charlotte was the daughter of Thomas Myers Palmer M.D. and Theresa Yeager Palmer. Both her parents were of Tallahassee frontier families who raised Charlotte and her sister, Susan Palmer Davis, and brother, Louis Charles Palmer, in Jacksonville.
Charlotte graduated in 1954 from Florida State University with a bachelor of science degree in home economics specializing in early education. She was a member of the Iota Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
Charlotte was married to Steve Moore Watkins, Jr. until he passed away in 1998 after 44 years of marriage, having met Steve at the wedding of George and Marion Langford.
She was a member of National Society of the Colonial Dames in the state of Florida, Order of the Daughters of the King, an Episcopal organization; Tallahassee Junior League where she served a term as president; charter member of the Episcopal Church of the Advent, Tallahassee, served as a member of the church vestry, altar guild, and flower guild dedicating her time to the St. Clements Chapel. She also faithfully served at Grace Mission and volunteered weekly for Meal on Wheels.
Charlotte had a love for flowers and birds and was a proud member of the local Audubon Society, Wildlife Society, and Daffodil Society. She had an affinity for native plantings and maintained a bird and flower sanctuary in her yard where she lived for over 60 years.
Charlotte spread her love throughout her family and her community through service to others. She had a passion for growing flowers and plants and could be seen tirelessly working in her yard. Charlotte was a consummate hostess and loved her social activities, garden clubs, and supporting the arts at Florida State University.
Charlotte is survived by her brother and sister; and her children, Theresa Watkins Linscott (husband Jerry), grandson, J. Palmer Linscott; Steve Moore Watkins, III (partner Karen Brown), granddaughters, India Moore Watkins and Emerson Miles Watkins; J. Ben Watkins, III (wife Joy), granddaughters, Mary Watkins Bennet and Callie Watkins Jarrett, all of whom she loved with all her heart.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to the Church of the Advent or favorite charity. Services to be held at Church of the Advent, 815 Piedmont Drive, Tallahassee at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 13.
