The Franklin County girls golf team opened with a win against Florida High Aug. 24 at Hilamin Golf Course.

Franklin County tallied 226, to Florida High’s 237, led by 43 from junior Alexus Johnson.

Junior Melanie Collins scored 46, followed by freshman Hollie Larkin 65, freshman Summer Cepull 72, and seventh grader Emma Gragg 72.

"It was a good opening win for us and we know how much work we have to do to make the playoffs this year,” said Coach Scott Collins.

Coming off an appearance at the state finals, a 44-4 record and four consecutive playoff appearances, the Lady Seahawks lost two players this season, including senior Megan Collins, who is now playing college golf.

On Friday at St. James Bay, Collins and Johnson shot their second best rounds ever, as the team down Wakulla 205-258. Collins shot a 35 and Johnson a 45.

“The other three had their best rounds ever,” said the coach, with Larkin netting 56, Gragg 69 and Cepull 71.

“The team showed great improvement from the first tournament to the second." I couldn't be more pleased,” he said.

The girls team record is 2-0. The boys are 2-2.
