Lamar Sims, 85, of Quincy and St. George Island, passed away at his home Friday, Sept. 1, 2017.
Family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7 at Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, 1001 W. Washington St., Quincy, and celebration of life will start at 6 p.m.
Lamar loved greatly and was greatly loved by all who knew him. He was a kind and gentle person who never met a stranger. His sense of humor was a source of enjoyment for all. He was a painter at Florida State University for 33 ½ years where he gained many lifelong friends.
Lamar and his wife, Margie, enjoyed spending time at their house in St. George Island and traveling extensively with their children, including visiting numerous foreign countries during their 23 years of retirement.
A lifelong resident of Quincy, Lamar and Margie where the first couple to be married at Thomas Memorial Baptist Church on Jan. 15, 1956, and have been active members all these years.
Lamar is survived by his 96-year-old sister; Hazel Gainous; his loving wife of 61 years, Margie Pullen Sims, two daughters; Sherri (Eric) Jackson, and Niki (Ralph) Anderson; and five grandchildren; Alexandria, Elliot, and Eliza Holtom of Tallahassee, and Caleb and Lizzie Anderson of Quincy. Family has always meant the world to him, and he dearly loved his children, grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many, many dear friends.
