James Walton (Jim) King died late Wednesday (8/2) night at Bay Medical Center in Panama City after a brief illness.

King was born on December 3, 1927 in Decatur, Texas to Cecil and Ethel King. He followed three brothers into military service in 1944 enlisting with the Navy. He served 30 years until his retirement in 1973 with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. While serving his country he saw conflict in three major wars, beginning with World War II, Korea and Vietnam where he earned several medals including the Purple Heart, Asiatic-Pacific Medal, Japanese Occupation Medal, China Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal and several other medals, commendations and citations.

After retiring from the Navy, King spent many hours volunteering in community service. He was an active member of Beach Baptist Chapel.

He is survived by a wife, Jackie, four children and step children: Kathleen Steele, Patrick McNeill, Jason McNeill, and Shannon McNeill. He also left behind numerous grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 2 at 11 a.m. EST at Beach Baptist Chapel in Port St Joe Beach.
