An early morning single car crash Sunday, on U.S. 98 just east of Eastpoint, sent two people to Bay Medical Sacred Heart in Panama City, both with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

According to a report by Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Jeshua Barrow, Becky Rodriguez, 31, of Perry, Georgia, was driving a 2008 Ford Fusion northbound on US-98, approximately one-half mile north of State Road 65 around 3 a.m. when she failed to negotiate a curve to the left safely.

The car traveled off the roadway and onto the east shoulder, when it then overturned multiple times before rolling off the embankment and onto the sandy shore into approximately one foot of water at low tide.

Both Rodriguez and an unnamed juvenile female passenger, 12, from Corpus Christi, Texas, were transported to Bay Medical. Hours after the wreck, sheriff's deputies found a dog the pair was traveling with, and are caring for it until their release from the hospital.

The Florida Highway Patrol was assisted by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Weems Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services and Eastpoint Volunteer Fire Department.
