The new Forgotten Coast Parrot Head Club invites you to participate in its first installment of an annual fundraiser on St. George Island for the national Alzheimer’s Association on Saturday, June 24.
The not-for-profit club is hosting an event called “The Longest Day,” which raises funds to help provide support for families caring for a relative with Alzheimer’s disease, to sponsor research into preventing the disease, and to speak up for the needs and rights of people who have Alzheimer’s.
To register for the events, please complete the form on our Facebook page – Forgotten Coast Parrot Head Club. There will be participant t-shirts for people who register early, as well as awards for the say’s many events. Send the form to Parrot Head Club captain, Allison Moore, at 1172 W. Pine Avenue, St. George Island, FL, or call 850-323-1446 for more information.
The day’s events start at 8 a.m. with a 5k Phun Run and 5k Phun Walk from the iisland’s Lighthouse Park. At 9:30 a.m., Samantha Fortunas will lead a “Cool-Down Beach Yoga” session. At 11 a.m., a Fins Up! Beach Volleyball tournament will begin in front of the lighthouse, spearheaded by member Tara Klink. At 5 p.m. the 5 O’Clock Somewhere Party begins at Doc Myers’ Island Pub and Sports Bar, featuring Parrot Head beach music performed by visiting musician Bwana Ray from Panama City, a $10 low country boil, costume contest, silent auction, 50/50 raffle, and giveaways.
We invite residents and visitors to participate in the fundraiser. In addition, you can recognize family members dealing with Alzheimer’s or dementia by sending a photo to be posted on our memory board at the event. Please send a photo with your family member’s name, along with a short biography, to the FC Parrot Head Club at the address listed above.
The Forgotten Coast Parrot Head Club also invites you to join our regular social gathering on the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at Harry A’s outdoor patio on the island. Our motto is, “Party with a Purpose.” We gather to listen to tropical rock music, enjoy a Cheeseburger in Paradise, and plan ways to help beautify the Forgotten Coast by keeping our roadways and beaches clean. We also volunteer for many other organizations throughout our community!
And, as we Parrot Heads like to say... Fins Up!
