More than 300 people, both children and adults alike, gathered Saturday morning on the lawn of the Chapman Botanical Garden in Apalachicola, as they joined in the hunt for almost 2,000 candy-stuffed eggs.

Divided into five age groups, each featuring a golden egg to be traded in for gift basket, the children scrambled for their treasures following a welcome from Mayor Van Johnson, who blew the whistle to start the hunt at just after 9:30 a.m.

Each child who took part received a book from Bring Me a Book Franklin, which collaborated with Apalachicola Main Street and the Apalachicola Margaret Key Library to create this new event. In addition, two bicycles, donated by Apalachicola Community Bicycle and Tabernacle of Faith, were given away as part of a prize drawing.
