Minnie Orean “Goody” Ash, 85, of Apalachicola went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 22, 2017 in Apalachicola.
A wake will be held Friday, March 31 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the New Life First Born Church in Apalachicola. A homegoing will be held Saturday, April 1 at noon, with burial at Magnolia Cemetery.
Ash, daughter of the late Pleasy and Gertrude C Peterson, was born in Vernon on July 27, 1931. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Raymond Ash, Sr.
Ms. Goody, as she was lovingly called, was reared in a Christian home, where she chose Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age. Upon leaving her birth home, she moved to Sopchoppy, joining the St. Marks Freewill Baptist Church, later becoming a member of the St. Nora Primitive Baptist Church where she served faithfully until moving to Apalachicola in 1981. Aligning with the First Born Church of the Living God, Ms. Goody was a dedicated member and usher of the ministry for many years before moving her membership to the New Life First Born Church. There under the leadership of Bishop Horace L. Solomon, Jr., she served her Lord as a devoted member until her Master called her home.
Ms. Goody was educated in the public schools of Washington County. Her years in Franklin County were spent initially as a seafood worker and eventually, as a devoted childcare provider, where she offered loving care for many, many children of Apalachicola. Her passion for God’s little ones was her special ministry, one she diligently fulfilled for decades.
In the midst of a quiet March 22, 2017 morning, God called his daughter home.
Ms. Goody will always be remembered for a caring heart and warm sense of humor, memories that will forever be lovingly reflected on by her family and friends. Her life’s memories will be cherished by her three daughters, Classie Mae Franklin of Sopchoppy, Wendy Barfield (Charles) of Longwood, and Brenda Ash of Apalachicola; daughter-in-law, Rose Mary Williams Ash of Sopchoppy; 11 grandchildren: Samanthia Jordan-Hill, Thomas Franklin, Alicia Scott, Richard Franklin, Jr., April Ash, Veronica Franklin-Reynolds, Craig Ash, Roderick Robinson, Jr., Claude Banks, Jr., Jeffery Banks, and Jessica Harris; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews, aunts, cousins, and other relatives and friends; devoted caregivers - granddaughters Jessica Harris and Arryonna Cargill; grandsons Roderick Robinson, Jr., Jeffrey Banks and Anthony “AC” Franklin; and special friend Jessie Mae Harris.
Along with her parents and husband, Ms. Goody will be lovingly embraced in her new home by her sons Hosea Peterson, and Robert Lee Ash, Sr.; grandson Robert Lee Ash, Jr.; brother James “Boy” Peterson; sister-in-law Aggie Mae Brown Peterson; and best friend Nancy West.
