A 52-year-old Eastpoint man suffered serious injuries when he was struck by a truck while standing on shoulder of US-98 west of Old Ferry Dock Road in Eastpoint early Wednesday morning.
According to a report by Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Charles Alexander, Carson Willscy was standing on the westbound shoulder of the road at about 7:50 a.m., when a 2003 Dodge Dakota truck, traveling eastbound, struck him, and then drove away without stopping.
A Franklin County sherriff's deputy later located the truck's driver, David Dewayne Freeman, 38, of Eastpoint, and the truck, at a home in the area. Freeman told officers he had dropped a cell phone on the vehicle floorboard and was retrieving it when he travled from the roadway, and struck Willscy.
Freeman was uninjured, but Willscy was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital with critical injuries.
Cahrges are pending against Freeman for leaving the scene of a traffic crash and careless driving.
