Carmelita Allen Seay, 87, former resident of Apalachicola, embarked on her final journey from this life into the next on Monday, March 6, 2017 in Jacksonville.
Carmelita was born on Dec. 18, 1929 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Virgil Allen and Boncyle Stewart Land.
She married her childhood love, Captain Wesley H. Seay on June 24, 1951 at her family’s home in Franklin County. Shortly after, they welcomed two children, the late Wesley Carl Seay and Maria Kelley.
Carmelita enjoyed traveling the world, living in a number of countries. She embraced new cultures, learning different languages, savoring exotic foods, dressing in native clothing and memorable makeup and jewelry. She brought home exciting stories of adventures and life. A true entertainer, she delighted in hosting lavish dinner parties. She was artistic, poetic, loved dancing the jitterbug and adored Elvis Presley.
Survived by her daughter, Maria Kelley; grandchildren, Bonnie (John) Brogle, Miranda Seay, and John Wesley Kelley; great-grandchildren John Mark “Tripp” and William Brogle; brother, Virgil “Jerry” Allen; and nieces and nephews. She was greatly loved and will be missed.
Visitation will be held at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Ceseary Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32211 on Sunday, March 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. Funeral services will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
