Doris Jeanette Moses Shiver, 83, passed away Monday, Jan. 30, 2017 at Community Health and Rehabilitation Center, Panama City, surrounded by loved ones.

Jeanette, as she was known, was born Oct. 26, 1933, at Wetapo Creek, Gulf County, to Walter A. and Allie Mae Gray Moses. She lost her parents at a very young age and went to live with her uncle and aunt, Branche Moses and Jewel Moses (Lemieux).

While living at Eleven Mile she met the love of her life, Jamie Shiver. She was 16 and he was 20, and after knowing each other for only two weeks, they married April 14, 1950 and shared that love for over 59 years before his passing in 2009.

She was a retired seafood worker and worked many years alongside her husband operating ‘Temko” service stations in Eastpoint and Apalachicola.

In addition to her parents, uncle and aunt, she was preceded in death by her husband Jamie, sisters Audrey Mae Moses Locke, Mary Lee Moses Yon, Ann Moses Barber and brothers Walter Thomas (WT) Moses, Doyle Nugene Moses (her twin) and Veldon Moses.

She is survived by her daughter Doris Gibbs and her husband Sam, of Eastpoint; grandchildren, Tirah Hamm Chitty and husband Derrick, of Pueblo, Colorado, and James Hamm, Carla Gibbs and Cale Gibbs, all of Eastpoint; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister Ellen Moses Jones Sansbury, of Panama City; brother Charles Moses, of Eastpoint; sisters-in-law Sherrill Carroll, Betty Braxton and husband Buddy, Ethel Shiver, and Audrey Shiver, all of Eastpoint and a host of many nieces, nephews and other family members.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Feb. 2, from noon to 1 p.m. at United Baptist Church, Eastpoint. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. following visitation. Pastors Bobby Shiver and BB Barwick will be officiating. Interment will follow at Eastpoint Cemetery.
