Franklin County girls golf coach Scott Collins, and his daughters Melanie and Megan, were given All-Big Bend honors last week.
Senior Megan and sophomore Melanie each were named to the First Team All-Big Bend, while sophomore Alexus Johnson was named to the Second Team.
Scott Collins was named Coach of the Year, his second such honor, having earned Coach of the Year honors in the spring for having taken the softball girls to the state tourney.
The Collins girls, and Johnson, anchored a girls golf team only in its third year to a berth in the state tourney. There the Lady Seahawks were the top public school in the mix, finishing 15th among Class 1A schools, seven strokes better than The Villages High School.
“I’m very proud of where we’re at,” Collins told the Tallahassee Democrat. “The historic part is very important for our school and our players.
“(Seventh grader) Alexandra Patrick, who we just taught the sport in September, ends up shooting her best two rounds of the year at state in October,” he said. “Things like that are a lot of firsts.”
