On Saturday, Nov. 19, 40 bikers banded together to give Franklin County children a merrier Christmas.
The seventh annual Franklin County Toy Run raised more than $3,000 including several toys donated by the bikers.
Jay Abbott, one of the organizers, said he was gratified at the progress the event has made over the years.
“I was overwhelmed with this year’s response,” he said. “The first year we had only six bikes. Last year we had 20 and this year the number has jumped to 40.”
The motorcycle convoy departed from Fathoms in Carrabelle, one of the sponsors of the event, and ended at Harry A’s on St. George Island, also a sponsor.
The riders were right on time for a lunch of red beans and rice.
Abbott said the goal for next year’s Toy Run is 60 bikes. He said a number of Franklin County motorcyclists will travel to Wakulla County to participate in their Toy Run Nov. 30.
