A 31-year-old Apalachicola drowned after visiting Sopchoppy City Park Wednesday, Oct. 19.

According to the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office, Richard Chadwell was visiting family and friends who were camping at the park when he went into the lake at the park and didn't come back up to the surface for some time. The sheriff’s office reported that some good Samaritans searched for about 45 minutes before they found Chadwell. The sheriff's office says no foul play was suspected.

"He was there with family and friends. They were camping. He was there visiting," Capt. James Sessor told WTXL television "He just ran out into the water, apparently, could not swim good and went under."

A dive team from Leon County and a marine unit from Wakulla County were called in to help, but the good Samaritans recovered Chadwell in about 10 feet of water and pulled him to shore before both groups arrived.
