The Franklin County School's boys golf team has been very busy, playing three matches this past two weeks, all at their home course, St. James Bay.
In the first match played Thursday, Sept. 22, the Warriors of Aucilla Christian played another outstanding match defeating the Seahawks 156- 173, despite a new record low score for the linksters from Franklin County.
Led by freshman Tyler Rainwater's 39, along with freshman Cale Barber's 41, a 42 by sixth grader Justice Jones and freshman Schuyler Donahoe’s 51 helped the cause. Rainwater’s score set a new team record with his 3-over par 39.
John Paul II also played and the Seahawks defeated them by 32 strokes, Maclay School failed to show up due scheduling problems. This raised Franklin County’s record to 13-10
Last week the Hawks played Chiles High Sept. 27 and the Timberwolves brought their A game again, shooting an impressive 153 to our 186. Barber led the Hawks with a 42, Jones 43, Rainwater gutted out a 50 with symptoms of asthma, and Donahoe showed again with a 51.
But on Thursday, Sept. 29 the Seahawks played their best round thus far this season, a 169, to best Florida High's 180. Rainwater carded three birdies, three pars and three bogeys for an even par 36. Jones played his season best round, also breaking 40 with a 39. Barber had a 46 with a couple of disappointing triple bogeys but he still managed four pars and a nice birdie two on #17. Donahoe played a personal best 48 to helped the team break 170 for the first time.
Statistics for the season thus far show Jones is posting the team’s best average, 41.7, three-and-one-half strokes better than Rainwater at 45.2. Barber is a half-stroke behind, with a 45.7 average, followed by freshman Tommy Gragg at 50.9, Donahoe a stroke behind at 51.9, and senior Chance White at 56.5.
