Local historian Mark Curenton found this image on the internet. The girl’s name is Sharon Lee McDowell; she is 16 years old. In Oct. 1959, she and two other teenage girls, Claudia Fuller and Sharon Beliss, and three adult males were discovered in a motel in Franklin County. The group had fled Helena, Montana.
It was initially believed the girls were kidnapped but, in reality they had willingly accompanied their companions. Do you remember this incident? The Oct. 8, 1959 Times, which ran the story, has been lost.
