Howard Grady Leavins, Jr., 73, of Eastpoint, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 3, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Mr. Leavins was a longtime resident of the Florida Panhandle moving to Apalachicola in 1972 where he started Leavins Seafood. He served on several state and national committees promoting the betterment of the oyster industry.

Mr. Leavins is survived by his wife of 44 years, Alice Leavins; his mother, Irene Leavins; daughter, Susan Ingram and husband David; son, Howard Leavins, III and wife Michelle; grandchildren, Robert West, Mason Ingram, Heather Belew, Scout Holstead and Laekyn Leavins; great-grandchildren, Casey James West and Joel Belew; brothers, Donald and Earl Leavins; and sisters, Walldine McGarvey, Linda Braley, Ann Black and Gwen Ibrahim.

He is preceded in death by his father, Howard Leavins, Sr; brothers, William, Danny and Gary Leavins; and sister, Earline Rice.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6 at Living Waters Church of Apalachicola with Pastor Donald Leavins officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at1 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
