I am Brad Segree, candidate for sheriff of Franklin County and a lifelong resident of Franklin County. I am the son of Larry and Clipper Segree of Eastpoint. My wife, Teresa, and I have been married for 23 years. Teresa is the daughter of Fred and Tina Jetton of Carrabelle. We are raising our three children here, our oldest daughter, Chena graduated from Franklin County High School and is a senior in college, our daughter Scout is a senior, and son Tonnor a sophomore at Franklin County High School, where my wife is employed.
In 1992 I started my career at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office as a correctional officer. During my time in corrections I advanced through the ranks to a lieutenant and shift supervisor. In 1998, I decided to continue my education and become a deputy sheriff. During my time in patrol, I again climbed the ranks to lieutenant and shift supervisor. While serving at Franklin County Sheriff’s Office I have had the opportunity to work with four wonderful Sheriffs, Sheriff Warren Roddenberry (who hired me), Sheriff Bruce Varnes, Sheriff Mike Mock and Sheriff Skip Shiver. While working with each of these sheriffs I have learned leadership skills that has brought me to where I am today.
As I stated earlier I started my career as a corrections officer, then deputy sheriff. I have worked in and supervised the narcotics unit, I have served as the jail administrator, and I am currently the administrative captain overseeing patrol operations, criminal investigations, school resource officer and dispatch. I am the sheriff’s office dive team leader and a member of the waterborne response team. During my time in administration I have worked closely with the finance officer on budgetary needs and concerns. I have received hundreds of hours of in-service training and specialized law enforcement training during my career.
I have been asked about my qualifications to be sheriff, I believe my career has shown my qualifications. I have worked in or supervised every department within the sheriff’s office, giving me the experience, knowledge and leadership ability to handle the daily operations of the sheriff’s office and the county jail.
My 24 years of service at Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has given me the opportunity to form a close bond with the employees of the sheriff’s office as well as employees of the county and build a close working relationship with community leaders, business owners, school administration and the citizens of our county.
I am seeking election for sheriff to make a difference. A difference in our youth by developing mentorship programs with our law enforcement partners. A difference in our teens by starting an Explorer Program that will be self-sufficient and not relying on taxpayer dollars. A difference in our arrestees at the county jail by continuing the Faith Based Program, continue offering the GED classes, allowing the oyster harvest license video to be viewed and offering many opportunities for counseling in areas such as domestic violence, drug addiction and alcoholism. A difference with our aging citizens throughout our communities by being more involved with their civic groups and meetings, to better understand their needs and concerns. Some have said we need change, I believe we need a difference.
Our communities should demand strong leaders that have the ability and foresight to unite our county as we move into the future; if elected, I will be that leader. I will be a visible and accessible presence for ALL people in our unique county. I respectfully ask that you consider me, Brad Segree, as your next sheriff of Franklin County.
