Hurricane Hermine could not deter local grillers in pursuit of glory.

In spite of a slight change of venue due to flooding, the second annual Locals Rib Cook-Off drew a crowd on Labor Day on St. George Island.

Organizers sold out of ribs before noon as scores of hungry barbecue lovers prowled the somewhat soggy grounds at Paddy’s Raw Bar. In all, 14 teams, grilled for the gold.

The blue ribbon went to David Walker, of Team Rose’s Rack from St. George Island. In second place was Richard Wade of Team Big Top out of Eastpoint. Mike Sparks of Team Paddy’s Raw Bar on St. George Island was a close third.

Proceeds from the cook-off benefit Franklin Needs Inc. to provide free mammograms to uninsured or underinsured Franklin County men and women.

Paddy's Raw Bar will also host the fourth annual Pink-Out on Friday, Oct 7 from 6 to 10 p.m. with all money also going to Franklin Needs.

There will be live music by the John Sutton Band; a silent auction; the ever popular Franklin County Man Auction, and a fish fry with local fish provided by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and barbecue prepared by award winning chef Richard Wade
