Boy, I was glad I got to go to join you at the Labor Day picnic at the Lanark Village Boat Club. But around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, I was headed to Weems Memorial Hospital. Had a touch of pneumonia. Got home Saturday afternoon. Many thanks to Father Roger and Arnold Tolliver.

Today, the volunteers will prepare and serve baked chicken, baked potatoes, veggies, tea or coffee and of course homemade desserts. A $5 donation is requested and will be collected at the desk. While you’re there, you may as well take a chance on the cake or pie raffle. Will see you at the Franklin County Senior Citizens Center at noon.

The celebration of life for our friend and neighbor Olin Don Ellison was held at American Legion Post 82, on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 6 p.m. A covered dish dinner followed the service. Don and his wife Martha, who preceded him in death, lived across the walk from me on Redwood Court. Don was an active member of the Legion and commander of the Sons of the Legionaries. Pray for Don and Martha’s eternal rest and for strength and comfort for the family and Mary Crane.

This Saturday, Sept. 17, you know where to be seen, at the Lanark Village Boat Club enjoying a good full breakfast. Door is open from 9 to 11 a.m. Your donation of $5 will be collected inside the clubhouse. See you there.

We will have a great afternoon. Saturday, Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fall Festival at the Senior Center. There will be arts and craft booths; live entertainment; great food; homemade desserts and a silent auction. Proceeds from the festival go to the Franklin County Senior Citizens Center.

Be kind to one another, check in on the sick and housebound, and pack up your troubles in an old kit bag and smile, smile, smile!. Keep General Conner in your prayers; he passed away last week.

Until next time, God bless America and our troops, the poor, homeless and hungry.
