A bear cub is on the road to recovery thanks to an Easpoint veterinarian.
On Friday, August 5 the Apalachicola Bay Animal Clinic had an unusual visitor. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) brought an injured male bear cub in for treatment.
The tiny bear was around 6 months old and weighed in at just 16-pounds.
Veterinarian Hobson Fulmer said the cub suffered a head injury after being hit by a car in Wakulla County. The doctor checked him with x-rays and ultrasound, and then gave him medication and put him on an intravenous drip.
“We sometimes treat wildlife so it can be released back into the wild or sent to rehab. This was our first bear,” Fulmer said.
Carli Segelson, a spokesperson for FWC, said the cub has been taken to Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo for assessment. – By LOIS SWOBODA
