A retired Apalachicola man received help with household repairs after volunteers responded to a Times article last month.
Donna McCoy, a case manager for the state’s Medicaid program, United Healthcare, said Buck Koch (pronounced cash) of Baker Distributing donated a brand new HVAC unit. A-1 Air Conditioning of Eastpoint provided installation services free of charge on a Saturday during their busiest season.
McCoy said cash donations were received from Dustin Nichols of Apalachicola and Wisconsin; Gail and James Doherty of Apalachicola. and Donnie and Jean Crum of Eastpoint.
Martha Hodge of St. George Island donated a portable air conditioner, which now will be given to an elder agency in the community since it is no longer needed, McCoy said.
The donated funds will be forwarded to Koch, who is replacing another HVAC unit free of charge for another individual in need, to help defer the cost of HVAC equipment for that project.
The family of the elderly recipient of such generosity responded, “Saying thank you does not seem like enough.” - BY LOIS SWOBODA
