Donations welcome for Operation Smile

The Philaco Women’s Club has adopted Operation Smile as one of its charitable outreach projects. Operation Smile works to transform the lives of children who suffer from cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities by providing them with corrective surgery.

One in four children born with these defects dies before age 6. Part of the healing process is sewing armbands, hospital gowns and cloth sacks used by the young recovering patients.

The Philaco International outreach committee is hosting a workshop to create gown, sacks and armbands and needs donations of materials to construct these items.

Materials needed include cotton or cotton blend remnants 32” by 13”, 15” by 10”, 36” by 36” or larger; 1/8” sturdy ribbon; 36” pieces of cotton cording; 66” pieces of hem tape or grosgrain ribbon; and 5 foot sections of double fold seam binding.
