African-American History Festival this weekend

H'COLA's 10th annual African-American History Festival will take place this weekend Feb. 15 to 17 at Franklin Square in Apalachicola. The two-day outdoor free festival will highlight both local and national African-American history, food, art and culture with a parade, live entertainment featuring “Unfinished Business,”, exhibits, food, arts and crafts, inspirational speakers, music, dance, poetry and drama. The festival is held in the North Historic District, “The Hill” off 6th Street and Avenue L. For info, call 323-0544 or 653-7515.


Dixieto present ‘Vintage Hitchcock’

The Dixie Theatre presents the first in its 2013 professional season with “Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play” over the next two weekends. Spies, murder, love, and other trademarks of Alfred Hitchcock come to life in the style of a 1940s radio broadcast complete with vintage commercials, a daring train chase, a serial killer's ominous presence, and a devastating explosion through the magic of live sound effects and music.

Shows are 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15 and 16, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17. There will be a special matinee at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20, and then shows continue on Friday and Saturday evening, Feb. 22 and 23, and Sunday afternoon, Feb. 24.
