Cops Seize Stolen Copper Pipe
On the morning of Tuesday, August 5, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office received a call for assistance to the new Franklin County School site on Highway 98.
Investigators responded and made contact with a complainant, who advised that sometime during the night, a storage trailer had been broken into. A large quantity of copper pipe was taken, valued at approximate $9,000.
Around the same time of the first report, officers took a theft complaint in the Apalachicola area, where a utility trailer had been taken the night before.
At approximately 1 p.m. dispatch received a call from the owner of the utility trailer who said that while he was headed east on Highway 98 into Apalachicola, he had passed his trailer headed in the opposite direction.
The victim attempted to flag down the driver of a dark-colored pickup truck. The driver would not stop and ditched the trailer, which contained the copper pipe. The trailer and copper pipe were recovered and returned to the owners.
