St. Joe woman hurt in early morning mishap

A 28-year-old Port St. Joe woman was taken to Weems Memorial Hospital in serious condition early this morning, after she struck a utility pole on U.S. 98 west of Apalachicola.

Veronica Adkins Foxworth was driving a 2000 Chevrolet westbound on U.S. 98 near Tilton Road at about 5 a.m. when she exited the road and turned clockwise off the north shoulder, according to a report by Florida Highway Patrol Trooper J. Tallman.

The vehicle overturned and continued to travel westbound, while it was upside down, before colliding with an old utility pole stump, causing the top of the vehicle to be "peeled" back, according to Tallman’s report.

Foxworth was transported to Weems Hospital in serious condition. She was wearing her seatbelt, according to the report, although charges are pending the completion of the investigation.

The FHP was assisted on the scene by officers from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office and Weems ambulance staff.
