Sheriff Has Not Been Fair and Impartial
To the Editor:
I'm 69 years old and I thought I had about seen everything. Well I hadn't. My wife and I came home the other day from a trip and found that we had a visitor while we were away. This visitor had evidently been here to try and persuade us to vote for him. Since he didn't find us home he left a card with a message that said he wanted to be re-elected! On the back of this card this "politician" had a list of the promises he made four years ago and he says that he has kept them!
This politician's name is Mike Mock and as you know he is the sheriff of Franklin County. Remarkably, one of the things that his card says he has done during his four years is that he has "upheld the office of Sheriff with the utmost fairness and integrity. Treating everyone fair and impartial."
This is not what I have observed to be the case. If you were at the trial a few months ago that involved Bill Snyder and Joey Rowell, you will know how crazy the statement on his card really is. Snyder was charged with battery on Rowell. Mr. Snyder is in his late 40s and is handicapped while Mr. Rowell is just barely 30 and very healthy.
Mr. Snyder hired an attorney and had his day in court. In the trial it was revealed that Sheriff Mike Mock's number one investigator, Sgt. Ronnie Segree did not conduct a real investigation. He simply turned in the statements of a very few people and ignored more than a dozen others. He also apparently ignored a lot of audio and video evidence. It was obvious to all present at the trial that he meant to make it look like Snyder was guilty. Joey Rowell admitted under oath that he and Lt. Ronnie Segree were distant cousins although he said it had been a while since they had been to a family reunion together!
I'm not going to go into detail about what happened at the trial but witness after witness testified that Mr. Snyder was brutally attacked by Mr. Rowell. When the trial was over it was absolutely certain that not only was Bill Snyder not guilty but that Joey Rowell had brutally assaulted Mr. Snyder! The jury was only out 15 minutes. I imagine it took this long to pick a foreman! The verdict was as expected. Not guilty. After the trial I overheard the judge telling a lady that they may have tried the wrong man.
At the very top of his "Re-elect" card, Sheriff Mock says that one of the promises that he has kept is "Making the Citizens of Franklin County safe and secure in their homes and making the criminal element feel unsafe and insecure in Franklin County." Well I'm here to tell you that after what I witnessed happening to Mr. Snyder, I not only do not feel safe, but I am actually afraid to call the Sheriff's department if something happens to me or my wife! If someone attacks us and we report it we might get arrested!
At the bottom of the card that the Sheriff left on my door it says "Being a personable Sheriff to all the citizens of Franklin County and be willing to listen to any concerns you have, big or small."
Well Sheriff Mock, I would like you to listen to me. I want to know why you and your officers did not apologize to Mr. Snyder after falsely accusing him, and furthermore why did you not immediately arrest Joey Rowell? After all, it was revealed at trial that Mr. Rowell beat Mr. Snyder severely enough that he went away in an ambulance!
Sincerely
