Jimmie and Olga Nichols Mark 60th Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Nichols, of Apalachicola, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Saturday afternoon with a small luncheon for family and friends at The Hut Restaurant in Eastpoint.
Jimmie Nichols and the former Olga Costarides were united in marriage on Sept. 26, 1948 at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Montgomery, AL.
Following their nuptials, the two took a two-day train ride to New York City for their honeymoon. During a visit to Radio City Music Hall, they were chosen to appear on a radio broadcast by famed announcer Ed Herlihy.
After returning from service during World War II, Mr. Nichols operated the Economy Cash Store with his brother, Nick, and then later ran Nichols Department Store as well as selling real estate. He is a former mayor of Apalachicola.
The couple has two children, son John Nichols, of Apalachicola, and daughter Catherine (Richard) Williams, of Tallahassee; and three grandsons, Matthew, Andrew and Nicholas Williams.
