Moonshine Mayhem Book Signing at Delores

News Herald columnist and author Marlene Womack will be signing copies of her new book, Moonshine Mayhem, at Delores' Sweet Shoppe in Apalachicola on Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In this book, you'll step back in time to another period and a lost way of life. Womack brings the moonshine whiskey business alive again after its demise several decades ago. Read about the manufacture of illegal liquor, the trials and tribulations of the moonshiners and the agents trying to apprehend them. Several incidents and raids occurred right here in Apalachicola, Franklin County and Gulf County.

The book also includes information on Temperance and the women's movement, patent medicines, rumrunners, Blind Tigers, recipes, NASCAR, a murder at the Cape San Blas Lighthouse, and the remembrances of several individuals. The moonshine era is one of the most defining chapters of what we consider our society today.
