Ruth Madeline Spiers
Madeline was born Ruth Madeline Johnson in Smackover, Arkansas on May 18, 1924, to Mr. & Mrs. William Johnson. She was the youngest of nine children.
Madeline passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, at Heritage Healthcare Center in Tallahassee at the age of 87.
She and George Rupert Spiers, her high school sweetheart, were married on August 18, 1943. George preceded her in death 34 years ago.
She is survived by their daughter Darlyn S. Hall who is married to Reed Hall, and four grandsons Rob Hance (Glenda), Richy Hance (Laura), Donnie Hance, and Bill Hall (Lynn). There are also five great-grandchildren Shelbi and Allison Barrow, Jessica and Brandon Hance, and Kyle Hall.
Madeline is best remembered for her 40 years of working in Burda Pharmacy in Carrabelle as a pharmacist’s assistant. She enjoyed working at the pharmacy and greeting and chatting with everyone.
Viewing will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at Fellowship Baptist Church in Carrabelle with the service following at 11 a.m. Burial is at Evergreen Cemetery, also in Carrabelle. Kelley Funeral Home was in charge. Pastor Homer I. McMillian, III and Bro. Jack Spiers will conduct the service.
