To the "Firepeople"

To the firefighters, first responders, officers of the law, insurance agents and neighbors (hereafter referred to as "firepeople") who prevented the Saturday morning fire on Dr. Fredrick Humphries Street from consuming everything. The fire melted the kitchen light into a stalactite and scarred the ceiling and walls as if preparing the house to age bourbon. For all its lightning-struck power and fury, however, the fire was allowed to burn for mere minutes before the firepeople finished its violent and terrible chapter.
The next chapter is far more pleasant. I have been very deeply stricken by the generosity and thoughtfulness of people in the community. If sympathetic words & selfless acts of kindness were pennies, I could buy Atlanta. Firepeople: you have hit the gratitude jackpot. I applaud your ability, skill and sense of duty. A community as wonderful as this one deserves the very best, and you are it.
