Carrabelle Police Concerned About Young Drivers
The Carrabelle Police Department is advising parents and young drivers that a learner's driver's license, and licensed drivers under 18, carry several restrictions.
A learner driver must be at least age 15, and must be accompanied by an adult at least age 21, with a valid driver's license, in the seat closest to the learner driver. For the first 90 days, the learner driver is restricted to driving during daylight hours, and following that, only until 10 p.m.
Unless it is to and from work, a person under age 17 holding a valid driver's license must be accompanied in the passenger seat by a driver, with a valid license and at least age 21, to operate a vehicle between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Valid drivers who are age 17 must be accompanied in the passenger seat by a driver, with a valid license and at least age 21, to operate a vehicle between 1 and 5 a.m., unless it is to and from work.
The Carrabelle police will be holding checkpoints for driver's license and safety checks through the months of April, May and June on Grey Avenue, Highway 67 and Ryan Drive. All drivers without the proper licenses and registrations will be cited.
